Wow. Yeah I've played sryth before. I play a game called a living
universe. It can be found at http://www.alivinguniverse.com I'll put
some information about the game below, this is just a taster. To become
a member or premium member does cost but in my opinion it's well worth
it. I used to play warring factions but I find that a game like this far
better sutes my playing style and playing needs. Not from the point that
it's fully accessible, but I guess it's about what you need and get out
of a game. It's not all about blasting and killing everything in sight.
Anyway here is some information about the game below. Have a look it's
well worth it I promise you. Should anybody wish to take part in the
game, I am known as kirk on there.

Overview of the Game
Living Universe is a science fiction, space based, Massively Multiplayer
On-Line
Game (MMPOG). It takes place in a perpetual universe, which as the term
implies,
runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You are initially placed in control
of two small
Starships. You must use your cunning, entrepreneurial and combat skills
to build
yourself an empire of wealth and fame while competing against other
human and non-human
players with goals similar to your own. There are many paths to riches
and fame,
which you take is for you to choose.
>From your small Starship you can:
Expand your fleet with multiple starships.
Interact with other players in chat room and intra-game messaging
system.
Establish bases in Star Systems.
Conduct Combat Operations against targets of your choosing.
Transport goods and resources across interstellar space.
Gather and refine the natural resources of the universe.
Compete with others conducting commerce in a free market economy.
Expand your bases to produce weapons, equipment and Starhips!
Explore new space for the first time, expand your empire, the universe
is the limit!
Turns
Living Universe is based on a series of consecutive turns.
Turns last 5 minutes each.
At the End of each turn a number of things happen. Ships Bend (or move)
from sector
to sector, combat operations are conducted, mines and factories produce
goods and
other things that are required to keep the Universe running.
In between turns is when you transfer, buy and/or sell your cargo. You
plot ships
courses and plan your next turns space combat. Many times ships must
cross vast reaches
of space requiring multiple Bends to traverse. So actual travel time may
be 15 or
20 minutes, other times travel may exceed an hour. Time between turns is
spent managing
your resources, making plans with your allies and generally having fun!
A little more about the game
While A Living Universe is a very detailed and complex game one thing
you won't find
much of is graphics. There are a few reasons for this: First, I'm not a
graphics
artist, my games are my art. So, I'll accept my limitation and tell you
that when
I find a good graphics artist you will start to see some cool graphics.
The second
reason you won't see many pictures is that they take up a lot of
bandwidth. So I
made that choice that I'd rather have a few more players on-line at the
same time
rather than have more cool stuff.
A Living Universe takes a good imagination and a little patience. You
will need to
start making star maps on graph paper or something like that if you want
to see the
bigger picture. I know when you first start playing 5 minutes between
turns seems
like forever, wait, pretty soon you'll be clicking your mouse
frantically trying
to get that last bit of business completed before the end of the turn.
Please let me know what you think! I am always willing to listen to an
honest opinion.
I fully understand that A Living Universe isn't for everyone. I wish I
could make
a game that everyone would love... but in today's global market I can't
be everything
to everyone.
Why choose A Living Universe?
Foremost is the sense of community that you will find amoung our many
members. Of
course there is yelling, kicking, screaming and battles of epic
proportion! It's
a game! Now please, really, relax because A Living Universe is a game
where the differences
we settle in the virtual universe can be set aside as we try to better
understand
the metagame and strategies which may be used to overcome the next
hurdles.
You will find a "genuine market economy" while playing the game. One
thing that frustrated
me over and over when playing games is how there always seemed to be an
endless supply
of "+1 Magic Swords", "Pulse Grenades" or whatever type of resource,
equipment or
weapon you could imagine. Where was the mage that enchanted all those
swords? Where
was the blacksmith, the smelter and the mine? You see my point of
course, there were
none. A Living Universe offers you the opportunity to build your empire
from the
ground up, literally! The sense of accomplishment you will earn along
the way is
something that you can only experience for yourself.
You won't find many free lunches here, you get what you earn. A positive
side effect
to this is that before a player is willing to commit their resources to
destructive
purposes, they will understand the true costs of their action.
One playtester has referred to A Living Universe as the "Wild West" gone
sci-fi.
The analogy may fit too well in many respects. There is the vastness of
space, the
badlands so to speak, in which the outlaw can hide. In more civilized
regions you
may find the law. Justice on the frontier can be swift but so can
success.
Although the current mapping and charting utilities are crude (did I
mention the
pencil and paper earlier) you will find that you travel in a real
universe, not one
with seemingly endless twists, turns and dead ends but one with vast
open space and
clusters of stars. Real space that you can defend, lose or conquer.
Adventure is where you find it! While A Living Universe is not a
role-playing game
per se, the team building and collaboration that success will require
will allow
players to fill many roles, from the obvious Starship Captain to Fleet
Admiral there
are positions of corporate power and influence, merchant roles,
governerships and
many more.
Using the Main Menu
When using the
Main Menu
you will find that most of the action comes from the Ship List and Base
List options.
Think of these two options as your starting point for controlling things
you own.
The Ship List
will present you with a list of the ships that you control. You may
then select
any ship of your choice. After a ship is selected you will be taken to
that ship's
Status Screen where you can control all aspects of your Starship
including Commerce,
Navigation and Combat.

Hi Darren,
That was a very long time ago, and yes lots has been happening in the
gaming comunity.

1. I have taken over Alchemy's games Montezuma's Revenge and Raceway,
and am working on completing them.
2. Earlier this year Phil released Sarah which is based off the Harry
Potter books/movies.
3. Che has developed a futuristic racing game called Rail Racer which is

very good, but can be somewhat technical to play. It takes some training

and practice to get really the hang of Rail Racer.
4. If you haven't heard allot of gamers here on the list are playing a
RPG game called Sryth found at
http://www.sryth.com
5. L-Works released a cool game, Judgement Day, last winter.

These are just a few things that has been going on over the passed six
months.
