Hi Nicol,
If the topic isn't game related it is considered to be off topic.
Generally discussing what goes on in the Harry Potter books is off topic
because it isn't talking about gaming. If you are talking about Sarah
which has some HP elements, a Kwitich game, or one of the Hp commercial
games out there then you can discuss those Harry Potter elements that
directly relate to the game. Elements of the HP books that are
specific to the book such as what Snape says or does in potions class is
not relevant to any on going game discussions.
However, since you started this particular can of worms, and I have
written this much, I will simply say read the entire book before drawing
your conclusions about Snape. Harry Potter is what we call in the
writing industry as an unreliable narator. We only get to see Harry's
point of view of Snape, and as you later find out his view is bias from
the beginning of the series. Even Harry's telling of DumbleDore's death
in Half-Blood Prince is not completely factual. At the end of the
Deathly Hallows when Snape gives Harry his memories Harry finds out why
Snape killed Dumbledore, and the answer will reverse your opinions about
the insodent.
Finally, I want to make one last point why we do not discuss books on
here weather it is Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, Stephen King,
etc. When you talk about a book someone hasn't read, is planning to
read, and you give away major spoilers into the plot line it ruins the
reading experience for everyone who wants to find out for themselves how
it turns out.
For example, how would you feel if there was a book you heard was good,
but hadn't gotten it yet, and someone got on the list and began saying
this is how the villen dies, the heroes best friend gets killed half way
through the book, there is this cool seen where the car he is driving
explodes but he gets out just in time, and so on and so on. Wouldn't you
rather read that for yourself, and experience the excitement of waiting
for the author to unfold the answers as the pages turns rather than
someone else blowing the entire book in one email?
Right now I could give you a summary of the last three chapters of Harry
Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is very intense, but that would
ruin the experience and impact of what happens. The final battle at
Hogwarts is really really, well, I won't say just because it is
something you have to read for yourself.

Hth.
