Yeah, I think it will work out for everyones advantage by allowing 
testers to buy their copies. That generally means they are serious about 
testing and giving input as well as the willingness to put up the 
initial capital to help the project continue.
Mainstream companies like Microsoft does this and it is a good system. 
I've beta tested things like Microsoft Office XP in development and 
because I paid for the beta I felt sure I was going to do my best to 
report bugs, issues, and give accessibility feedback about the product. 
Which I did.
Now, let's assume I had did nothing to test, but still purchased the 
beta for the discount. In that case Microsoft didn't lose money on a 
sale and end user feedback together on a tester who decided for whatever 
reason to test one day and quit
