A lot of the newer weapons have special attacks, and if you're lucky, they can be nasty. I've seen signatures on the sryth forum with weapons doing better than a hundred points in damage. My experience, however, is that they most often seem to do only a couple points of damage, when the enemy's special attacks are nearly guaranteed to be 8, 10, 15, 20, or better. Also, you're right that the special attacks in our weapons don't happen often, especially when compared to the enemy's attack. The enemy's attack is guaranteed to happen at least once during a fight. Our weapons never seem to go off when actually needed.
