Hello everyone. This message is to any Window-Eyes users who want to
help Window-Eyes establish a silence presence while you play
self-voicing games. I prefer users who have Window-Eyes 6.0 or 6.1, so
if you are using an older copy of Window-Eyes, using the following steps
should still help you get silence from Window-Eyes while playing games,
but I do not need your set files. If you are still reading at this
point, I will give you the steps on how to associate the silent.000 set
file with a self-voicing game application. Then I will show you where to
find these files so you can send them to me. This will allow me to
compile a games collection of sets so that users can simply install them
from the set file manager of Window-Eyes in the next version which we
are working on. If you stick with your current version and do not
upgrade, you will still be able to use these sets, but they will not be
a part of the automatic set file manager.

1. Run the game in question, making sure to keep Window-Eyes running
while you do this.

2. From the game, press CONTROL-BACKSLASH to bring up the Window-Eyes
control panel. You should hear, "Window-Eyes active wineyes.000
associated wineyes.000" or something similar. If you do, you can skip
step 3.

3. If you only hear "Window-Eyes" instead of "Window-Eyes active
wineyes.000 associated wineyes.000" or something similar, it means you
are in beginner mode and must switch to advanced mode by pressing ALT-L,
M, A, ENTER. If you are already in advanced mode, you can skip this step.

4. Activate the open set file dialog box by pressing ALT-F, O, ENTER.
Window-Eyes will prompt you for the name of a set file to open.

5. Type "silent.000" then press ENTER. Now Window-Eyes should say,
"Window-Eyes active silent.000 associated none" or something similar.

6. Save the set file and the new association by activating the save set
file dialog box with ALT-F, S, ENTER. Window-Eyes will put in what it
wants to call the set file. Erase this edit box and type silent.000 instead.

7. Window-Eyes will ask you if you want to save this set file which you
do, so press Y then Window-Eyes will ask you if you want to save the
association which you do so press Y a second time.

BINGO! You have now just made the silent.000 set file load any time you
start this particular self-voicing game. Again, if you are using
Window-Eyes 6.0 or 6.1, I would like you to share this information with
me so I can compile the games set file to add to the set file manager of
Window-Eyes. For this, I will need you to zip and send me via private
e-mail attachment, the Window-Eyes association file. This is a small
text file with a .we extension. If you have done the above steps for a
number of games, you might have multiple association files. The best way
to find them all since the names may not be very intuitive is to sort
the set files by date modified and then you should see them either at
the very top or the very bottom of your list. The location of set files
will be in one of two places. If you are using Window-Eyes 6.0 or
earlier, they will be located in "c:\Wineyes\Users\Default" Also, if you
are using Window-Eyes 6.1 and you upgraded to version 6.1 from an
earlier copy like 6.0, they will also be in this location. If you are
using Window-Eyes 6.1 and you installed version 6.1 from the CD and did
not upgrade it, then the location of the set files are in the
application data of your Windows user account. This location is best
reached by typing the following minus the quotes from the run dialog
box. Please note that there are percent signs surrounding the appdata
portion.

"%appdata%\GW Micro\Window-Eyes\Users\Default"

Once you find the .we files which you modified for the games, zip them
up and e-mail them to me privately. If you like, I'll give you credit in
the game set file readme as well.

Many thanks for any help you can lend. There are just two more things
you should know.

1. The games set file collection of Window-Eyes will be free and will be
used as-is. This means that it should make Window-Eyes silent during
game play. If some aspect of the game changes, the silent.000 set file
may not load correctly.

2. This does not entitle you to anything other than knowing you have
helped the gaming and Window-Eyes community.

If you have any questions regarding Window-Eyes please do not post them
here. Feel free to write me privately or write GW Micro Technical
Support [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks and happy gaming.
