Here's my two cents. The sidescroller genre is severely lacking in the accessible games market, and there is really an endless source of material the genre offers. So why not use it? I honestly prefer sidescrollers, because I've always been terrible at navigating 3d games, and don't generally care for them. Even in the console market, I prefer sidescrollers.
