LOTJ does not base itself on things such as the battle After Yavin and all of that good stuff. Instead, it has a moving timeline which starts out with maybe one or two clans and the Old Republic era. Then it moves to the second era, which will probably be empire vs. Rebellion, then it moves to the next era which will depends on who will win those conflicts. An era lasts six months, but the timeline lasts for about a year to a year and a half if not a little longer. After all the cards have been played, there is a player wipe and the fun starts all over again.
It's a unique way of doing things and helps for organizations not to be stagnant. I used to imm for LOTJ for about three and a half years and played there for longer. I just started playing again a few weeks back and a *lot* of things have changed a great deal. I hope I've helped some and have encouraged you to give it a try.
