Hi Andy and all, I did a google search on the association between the toilet and the name John and came up with the answer. Apparently in 1596 an inventer, named John Harrington, is credited for building one of the first modern toilets. Of course, the idea of a flushing toilet has been around for thousands of years, but John Harrington's design was one of the first designs of the more modern age. To make a long story short in England when John released his invention in 1596 people called it a John. Thus the nickname the John was forever associated with the toilet.
