I recommend tekken and tekken 4 for the ps2. I also recommend mk trilligy for the ps1, and if you can get it, mk 3. I haven't played bloody roar, but it sounds good, I like the idea as fighting as a tiger for a bit rather fun (if I have a bad day at school I can just plug that game in and roar out my frustrations, literally and figuratively).
As far as mortal kombat goes, my favorite character would be nightwolf (he just sounds cool!) and, when I watched the second mortal kombat movie, I thought he sounded tough.
