a hand full of testers and I did some tests on battle racing last year
just to get a feel for what I could do with it. The problem we were running
into is that it is simply too complicated to race and manage weapons systems
at the same time. I am considering re visiting the project after the
fighting game gets underway and I have a low latency framework in place. The
new model would have two person race pods, with one person driving while the
other manned the weapons systems, with each person sending communications to
the other as needed. For instance, using your shields takes energy away
from your engines, so you would want to coordinate with your partner before
turning them on, as dragging down engine power at the wrong time could cost
you the race. Likewise, the driver could help keep the weapons operator
informed when they were coming up on an enemy racer so the 50millimeter
chain gun could be locked and loaded.
In the testing, we had the machine gun, mines and shield operating, but it
still needs some work, and doing the two person racers would require a
pretty significant overhaul of the multi player code, but the possibilities
are tremendous overall, which is why I find online gaming so much more
exciting than just playing the computer, and why for the forseeable future,
all of Blind Adrenaline's games will be online capable..
Later,
