Yah, had a friend when i lived in los angeles that had a racing setup in
an old bathtub he had padded out, with a huge subwoofer underneath and
dolby 5.1 around the tub, and his steering wheel mounted inside the tub
with a big friggin monitor on a custom platform. His racing wheel was a
custom aluminum job, cost over a thousand dollars, and had a clutch as
well, although as I remember there was only one racing game at the time
that would take advantage of the clutch.
He was so dedicated to realism he wore gloves and a helmet while racing,
the dude was into it. I used to be in an online racing league with him,
and he was by far the best of us all, in both oval track and road courses.
Those online racing leagues were a total blast, because all the guys in
them were die hard racing fans, like myself.
Speaking of, wonder what I can get an antique bathtub for on eBay...

I used to have a sidewinder steering wheel too. It was good but I never
really got the hang of using it. I loved the gas pedal and break, but
what I'd love is a racing wheel with an actual gear shift - though its
probably way out of my price range. I hear there are real life driving
games with wheels with a clutch, break, and gas pedal. Now that would be
fun.

I use a logitec wingman rumblepad. As the name implies the controller
includes motors for force feedback. You need to install the software
from the cd or internet in order for games to pick up on its force
feedback qualities. It's a nice gimic but the rumble isn't very
powerful. I got the controller cerca 2001. It looks kind of like a
hybrid between the ps2 and dreamcast/xbox1 controllers - two wacky
looking protrusions out front, 2 decent (if a little flimsy) analog
sticks, 6 main buttons (which are a little small), a d-pad and a few
other buttons for switching control from d-pad to left analog stick
and back and toggling force feedback on/off. It isn't the best
controller - I used to have a microsoft sidewinder whose buttons and
dpad were a little more solid and big - but it's fun to use with games
especially top speed. One advantage resultant of joystick use in-game
is that you don't have to shut down your screenreader (and in some
cases, you don't even have to have the game window in focus - I can
play topspeed while chatting in an msn window though I won't be able
to hear the other cars on the track).

I'd appreciate that as well. I'd like to buy a racing wheel for the
racing
games and at some point a joystick for other games.
I want you...to go upstairs...and kill that boy!
