I do remember a book called chess for tigers, which was both helpful, and rather fun (sinse it was written using jungle animals as examples). the author was a grand master, but I can't recall which unfortunately, ---- wikipedia will have an artical though. Unfortunately though, generally the only way to get better at chess is to lose a lot, then try to think why you lost. I'm afraid that's all I can suggest for the time being, but iadmit I haven't played serious chess for quite a long time now. Beware the grue!
