Could be. After all, you can't see he endings if you cheat so it stands to
reason that you wouldn't be able to get the laser the other way if you
cheated. Particularly if you'd already gotten it via cheating.

I did it and still nothing, did not get a thing, we must be doing
something wrong, did you guys use cheats to get to the bonus level?
Perhaps you cannot use cheats, else it will not work.
