Well, I suggested a coordinate system, but I think that would break the
challenge for sighted players. Michael just gave me a really good idea
though. He pointed out that the cartographer's scroll changes the labels of
the arrows to indicate the path back to the stairs. I just emailed the
developer back with a suggestion that maybe the arrows could indicate
terrain type, like wall, coridor or room. He said he'll think about some of
the suggestions in my first email, and he hasn't replied to my second, but
it looks promising at least.
