No, you can't protect a table with a password. However, There exists a completely different way to play safely with your friends without being disturbed by unwanted people.
1 - Create a new table
2 - Set it private with Ctrl+H
3 - Invite a friend by pressing Ctrl+I. He must already be online at invitation time to get it. 4 - Your friend has just to press Ctrl+I to accept your invitation and safely join your private table directly. As the table is private, nobody can join it unless he's invited to it. You can of course invite more friends by pressing Ctrl+I multiple times in a row.
