Well i never found too many of the puzzles in chillingham too bad, but more
than that because the parza is limited, your not constantly playing guess
the verb. What I mean is, in chillingham you just use one thing with another
thing, meaning you can keep trying alterantives, where as in a lot of if
games, if you don't get the command just right it won't work.
One example I've mentioned on list before is when I was playing a game
called Pentori, a prequal to the commercial game from malinch entertainment.
I get to the end of a great hall in a ruined castle, and see a large unlit
fireplace. when i examine it there's something gleaming in it.
Ah. "get all fireplace" t"that doesn't contain things" "enter fireplace"
"that's not something you can enter"
"look in fireplace" it doesn't contain things.
"north", (this being the north end of the hall), "you can't go that way"
I tried this for literally hours, and it wasn't until I mailed the games
developer that I found the command was in! ---- -in! for the love of peate!
That's why I have gone right off interactive fiction games with a parza.
it's like having a controller with a thousand buttons, and you don't know
which one is right, and might have even been doing the right thing just not
in the way the designer wanted you to, where as if the game is like
Chillingham with choices, or like a gamebook, you can just try alternative
possibilities.
In chillingham though I will confess I never found the puzzles too hard
despite that, since examining every object pretty much gave me the answer,
the only bits I had trouble with were some of the less obvious bits like the
organ repare where it's just not clear what you need to do when.
As I said though, michael has written a rather complete walkthru for the
game which you can find on the chillingham page on audiogames.net if your
stuck.
Beware the grue!
dArk.

Chillingham easy! Isn't it an illogical puzzle, too? Thanks so much for
the
link. I will definitely check it out.

Bavisoft's site was still up, but nobody has heard from them in about five
years. They haven't updated their games to work with post xp windows,
indeed
I've heard of several people who tried ordering from them and never
recieved
stuff.
i even tried to phone them at one point, since they werent' answering my
male (I did establish first that phoning new york from Britain wouldn't
rupture my bank), but no reply there either.
so for all intents and purposes they're a dead concern.
Michael barns however did write a very good guide for chillingham, if you
go
to the chillingham entry on audiogames.net (use the dropdown on the front
of
the site), you'll find a link to where it is posted.
that should get you through the game if your having trouble, though myself
I
actually found chillingham far too easy.
all the best,
Dark.
