To be honest, ascii art is something that most people don't use, but some
take it to extremes and scatter it everywhere, and it can be somewhat
annoying with a screen reader especially when people use more than a few
symbols.
I just use :D, because it's quicker than writing grin, and it's one of the
most if not actually the! most common symbols so the majority of people even
outside the usual ascii art crowd (vi computer users included), tend to know
what it means.
Beware the Grue!
