I frequently turn gossip and other channels off if I'm doing a lot of
fighting or exploration, so it's quite legitimate to do that and all part of
the game.
Also remember that sinse you are a new character, there is the newbie
channel. this is both a good place to ask questions, and also a channel
you might wish to turn off from time to time.

Pretty much all channels can be shut off, and you won't necessarily
lose much. Just type the name of the channel, for example 'gossip',
'auction' or 'notify'. The channel name by itself will usually toggle
a channel on or off.

Okay, I'm doing decently in AA with a warrior theif with 1 level of mage,
(don't ask me why I did that). Anyway, I found a ranger (not sure which
town she was in), where she teaches a bunch of skill slike hunting,
foraging
and fishing. The problem is, when I am tryng to figure out what skills

teaches and what the skills basically do, a lot of cattering between

players comes across my screen, interrupting my screen reader's reading

the ranger's descriptions.
Is there a way (a comannd of some sort) to shut that chatting off?
I know it will lesson the impact of the game for me, but I'm really not
interested in hearing about someone back stabbing someone for over 5000
points of damage.
