your problem is going to be fixed permanently very soon.  without getting
too technical, the problem is that right now solaris and linux are using
different values to represent heartbeat announcements.  that means that
your linux box is misinterpreting values being sent by your solaris boxes.  
if you look at the GMOND_STARTED timestamp of the solaris hosts you see
very wrong values (wrong meaning when you translate the timestamp into a
date.. you find gmond was started during the carter administration) then
you know that is your problem. 

we are going to standardize all the metrics to avoid the problems of 
mixing gmonds on multiple operating systems.
