It error/length checking seems to work, but I can still create a long
metric with a long value that breaks. See examples below

The value length is 1400 characters, which I am allowed to submit.
However the METRIC is truncated at character 995 as you can see.
Like I said before in my previous post, the max size for gmetric value
seems incorrect...

string int lengths = 1448
please test this code and let me know. it's really even less changes
than before... just checking if a buffer gets full and erroring out.
