Hi Martin, Just experiencing some instability -- the gmond (v2.6.0) on some Solaris 10 systems is dying every few days with no core dumps. Interestingly the daemons I have running with gdb at the moment have been stable for over a week now.
However, I don't actually think this is a daemonising issue as I've also had issues running in debug mode (redirecting output to /dev/null) so I'm not even executing the daemon_init code. It's running as a non-root user. Unfortunately we have too many modifications to move quickly to 3.0.x. All I know is that you needed to run gmond as root prior to 2.5.last. With 3.0.x, there is no need and it worsk fine on Solaris 8 and 10 (for me :-).
