I think we all agree that de-stabilizing 3.0.5 is not a good thing so
I will not include this patch for 3.0.5 unless somebody strongly
disagrees.

Paul, if you have a chance, can you check to see if the patch applies
cleanly to trunk and if needed rebase it please?
