So the process is outlined here: "Proposing a patch for backport" 
(http://ganglia.wiki.sourceforge.net/ganglia_works) .  We need 2  +1's with no 
-1's in order to approved a patch for backport.  We haven't started using the 
STATUS file yet for tracking backport proposals, but we should start using the 
STATUS file at least by the time that we create the stable branch for 3.1.x.  

  You could check the patch into trunk given that trunk is CTR, however in 
light of the concern that I raised, it is probably wise to hold off there as 
well until we can get some more feedback.
