Exactly.  Since the proposal does not provide for this, something external to 
gmond must still restart it to obtain a new configuration.  That something may 
as well manage the configuration at the same time.  This already works today.  
For me it is a perl program, for you it might be cfengine or puppet or manual 
update.  The beauty of the current system is the simplicity and that you can 
just use whatever works for you.  I like that I can look at the standard 
gmond.conf on any client and know the complete configuration, and this cached 
configuration works locally after reboot with no dependencies.  It would be far 
more complicated if I had to go query a web service or LDAP server to see the 
configuration.  I don't see much value in that.
