All,
There is quite a large number of fixes and enhancements that have been
backported to the 3.1.x branch so I think that it is probably time to start
thinking about a 3.1.2 release. I know it is getting close to the holidays and
nobody needs any extra work to do at this time, so I am thinking that right
after the first of the year might be a good time to push 3.1.2 out the door.
In order to prepare for that, there is a also a number of backport proposals
listed in the 3.1 STATUS file that could also make it into a 3.1.2 release.
Under the new backporting guidelines that have been adopted (please see the
wiki site for more information), we should be able to easily get most of these
proposals committed to the 3.1 branch. Obviously the proposals that are
sitting in the STATUS file that current have a -1 vote will need further work,
but for the rest, the time is now to get them in. It would probably also be a
good idea to roll an alpha tarball from the 3.1.x branch for testing. Let me
know what you all think about this plan to move forward with 3.1.2.

Brad
