I've used the GroundWorks Ganglia thresholding plugin at a couple of sites.

http://superb-west.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/gwmos/Ganglia_GWMOS_Integration_0.5.zip

This plugin Reads the Ganglia XML data from either gmetad or gmonds.
Parses it, and compares the metrics to a data base of metrics to threshold.
If metric exceeds threshold generates a NSCA or Nagios pipe command to
Nagios to warn/critical/ok a metric.

The point being - There is a bunch of perl code in this plugin for storing
Ganglia metrics in a MySQL data base.

I license GroundWorks uses is either GPL if not BSD.
