I don't know how many of you have heard of statsd but it is a really 
useful stats aggregator. You can read a post about it here

The only drawback has been that it only flushes metrics to graphite. Steve 
Ivy made a port of statsd in Python so I figured I could modify the code 
to flush metrics to Ganglia as well. I have done it and that code has been 
merged into the main line for py-statsd. You can download it here
