I downloaded 2.3.0 and now it compiles on my IRIX system without a hitch,
but doesn't run:

bash-2.05# /usr/sbin/gmond --debug=6
creating cluster has for 1024 nodes
gmond initialized cluster hash
mcast_join() setsockopt() IP_MULTICAST_LOOP error: Invalid argument
gmond could not join the multicast channel: Invalid argument

The system has route to the multicast address, which I was able to verify
by ping 239.2.11.71. Any ideas?

thanks,
