rrdtool doesn't seem to create any files in this implementation (at least,
none that I can find), so it shouldn't need write permission.
It *WILL* need read permission to the directory where gmetad is storing all
of your RRD files. So make sure that the web server user/group has read
permission on that directory and its contents. I usually run gmetad as the
same user as the web server just to be on the safe side.
(and of course, I run neither with any privileges. ;) )
BTW, i've got 5 Athalon XP 1900 Dual machines with 18 PentiumII 350 running
Redhat 7.3.
I've got an O2 paperweight. :P
