ganglia is both a ginsu knife and super glue for clusters without the 3 easy payments of $19.95. ginsu knife ----------- to split up a cluster into groups simply change the multicast channel the nodes are sending/receiving messages on in /etc/gmond.conf (for example) mcast_channel 239.2.11.101 this will make the gmond on the node listen for other gmond's on the 239.2.11.101 multicast channel and no others. in gmetad then, you just pick one of more nodes from each group and add them to the gmetad_sources file. super glue ---------- you may also want to merge together smaller clusters separated by unicast-only routes into a single cluster. in that case, simple set the name of each cluster to be the same in /etc/gmond.conf (for example) name "My Cluster with Nodes All over the Place" when gmetad pulls the data from all the different data sources it merges all clusters with the same name together. make sense? -matt
