i'm not sure if this question was answered.  right now, there is no way to 
remove a metric from the list with restarting gmond.  the assumption is 
that once you create a metric you will periodically send updated values 
which overwrite the old value.

ganglia 2.5.0 is being released today and we've already begun work on 
2.5.1.  in 2.5.1 will be able to specify how long the metric will live in 
memory.  a garbage collection thread will then make sure it's deleted when 
it's expired.
