This may or may not be it, but when I first set up the ganglia frontend, I needed to turn on register_globals in my php.ini file. The variables passed to the different scripts (notably graph.php) just weren't being accessed.

Then again, that was the first release... this may have been fixed lately.

DISCLAIMER: I have been chasing memory leaks almost all day today. Thus, I am not quite in my right mind.

 Try changing $gmetad_root to be where gmetad puts its rrds..
 Probably something like /var/lib/ganglia.
