When I first read this thread I thought it was a problem with permissions, but I doubt gmetad would have been able to create the RRD file in the first place if that were the case. Last week I was grumbling about how gmetad seemed to be recreating a specific RRD for every host on every update pass - maybe there's a bug in the "do-I-need-to-create-this-RRD?" logic that's manifesting itself more aggressively in your case.

That's one possible explanation, there's many others...

Remember that if you just started gmetad, the RRDs are going to be empty. They'll fill with data very slowly (especially if you're dumping the RRDs at the command line). But you should have at least one data point's worth in a minute or two of runtime.

Have I mentioned how helpful it is (either for yourself or for others when you ask for help) to run Ganglia in debug mode when it's being problematic? :) It helps in almost every situation!

Man, we should put that in the FAQ...

I am able to successfully retrieve XML data from gmond and gmetad using

have ideas as to what might be the reason for this ?

Hi Sumanth,

I reckon one of the reasons may be that the gmetad is not running on the
webserver. Atleast that is what I gather fromyour mail.

I suggest that either you have your webserver running the gmetad or that
you have gmetad running on the webserver as well as your other node.

Hope it helps.

I have ganglia up and running on a cluster. I do a telnet localhost 8649
and I can see all my XML data. I have another linux box running the
webserver. When I do a rrdtool dump load_one.rrd I see all the data values
as NaN, which I guess is Not a Number in C ? Any ideas y this is happening
? Bcoz of this my graphs appear blank.

thanx
