I was also trying to figure out why other people who are using v2.5.5-1
have a different default webpage look&feel than the one I have.

Because the version number was released with variable incorrectly set in
the file 'conf.php' which is located in the where ever you installed the
frontend to. Take a look at the eighth line of 'conf.php' and feel free
to change the line:
$microversion = 4;
- to -
$microversion = 5;
