Have you tried bouncing ganglia on the Opterons?  I *am* running ganglia 
on Opterons running RHEL WS 3, and I vaguely recall having this issue.  
IIRC, I just fiddled with stuff, mainly bouncing ganglia I believe, and 
got it to work.
