Instead of trying to guess at what the problem is, it would be much easier to debug the problem if you are able to look at your web-server's error logs. The web browser is displaying a red X because it couldn't display the image. Looking at the server's error logs will probably tell you what went wrong when ganglia tried to generate and send the graphs.
