What doesn't scale? The calculation is done on the host sending the statistic, not the host recieving the statistic, so each host does its own little thing and the collectors get the same data they otherwise would. The load is distributed, so the addition of another host doesn't increase the load on any collector (other than the impact it will obviously have, being another host). I currently use this technique for 80 hosts * 5 stats * 2 minutes.
