I know that most people I know who use Cacti use it because of the easy way you 
can zoom (either graphically, with
the fancy javascript bounding box feature) or the timescale config that you can 
set.

Ganglia's biggest drawback is the graphing, IMHO.  Being able to see beyond 1 
hour/day/week/month/year is pretty important,
especially to view an event that has passed the 1-hour mark.   I have seen 
various hacks and add-ons to ganglia to 
allow graphing for N hours, days, etc., and even start/end times for the 
graphs, but I wonder if there was any plans
to incorporate this sort of thing in the official ganglia releases.
