I'm trying to get more information on the spoofing option of gmetric in
the latest ganglia 3.0.4. I've installed ganglia on a fresh FC5 machine
which also runs gmetad and gmond locally. This monitoring machine is in
its own cluster group in ganglia. I'd like to inject metrics into the
multicast channel for a different cluster group however (web cluster)
and thought I would be able to do this with the new spoof option in
gmetric.
The multicast channel and cluster name for the monitoring server is
different from the web cluster. I am able to successfully use gmetric to
spoof to the monitoring server's multicast channel, but am unable to do
so to the web server multicast channel. gmetric exits cleanly, but
telneting to the web server on port 8649 doesn't display the new
metrics. I have also tried copying the gmond.conf file from one of the
web servers to the monitoring server and specified with the --conf
switch with gmetric with the same results.
Am I trying to do something that wasn't intended with the spoofing
functionality? Is there a way to work around this?
