Hello,

(Hopefully this one doesn¹t get automagically forwarded by Entourage before
I¹m done with it ...)

Anyway ...

I¹m trying to set up some additional metrics for hardware environmentals in
a cluster I¹ve got here, but I¹ve run into a bit of a wrinkle. The problem
is that the systems in my cluster are not symmetrical ‹ some have one
physical CPU, others have two, etc.

The examples of greceptor plugins I¹ve seen appear to be able to only query
a single, fixed value, be it a hard disk, a CPU, a fan, etc.

So my question is ... what would be the best way to handle this problem, so
that on a system with one CPU, greceptor only queries one CPU, but on a
system with two CPUs, greceptor queries both of them? I thought about
various sysadmin type ways to do it (generate scripts for each device during
software installation, or via the first-boot mechanism), but none of them
are all that appealing or will ultimately work as well as doing this
natively in Ganglia.

What kind of variables can be passed back and forth inside a greceptor
plugin? Is there a way to account for different hardware profiles without
having to write individual plugins for each component?

Any hints, tips, pointers, insights, or suggestions would be extremely
helpful. Google hasn¹t turned up anything useful, and the list archives have
so far come up dry (although I¹m still searching).

thanks,
Klaus
