One of the new features of Ganglia 3.1.x is the ability to create metric plugable modules. In other words, rather than just being able to extend ganglia metric gathering ability through gmetric, you can now do it by creating plugable modules for gmond. There are two interfaces that you can use to create a plugable module. You can either create modules by writing to the C interface or by writing python modules. There are examples of doing both in TRUNK directory of the SVN code repository.
