there is no need to register metrics in ganglia, if you need a new metric,
just send it using gmetric, and if you need to schedule it, make that gmetric
call periodic through a crontrab or by making the process that generates the
metric call gmetric periodically.

if you want to define a metric and add it to the gmond scheduler then you
probably want to look at what is coming with ganglia 3.1.0 and the dynamically
loaded metrics.

AFAIK it become gmetric with the release of ganglia 2.5.x.
