Yes, rrdtool provides bindings for popular programming languages: ruby, python, php, perl, etc. -- however discussion of these bindings are outside the scope of this mailing-list. I suggest you refer to the rrdtool documentation. If you would like to learn about the interaction between Ganglia and RRDtool, take a look at gmetad's code.
