We use nagios for monitoring/alerting, and SEC (simple event  
correlator) to parse/diagnose/act on syslog information.  Some places  
have plugged these latter two together, but we haven't yet reached  
that level of sophistication.  I like the "best in class" capability  
that each of this trio brings to the table... I don't believe that any  
combined tool could do as well as all three of them together.
