Looks like SLES isn’t providing the nice helper functions that most Linux
distributions have for writing init scripts. You might want to look at the
gmond.aix.init or gmond.init.SuSE files to see if there’s something mroe
compatible with the HP environment.

For example, on Solaris, which has the same issue, we wrote our own “methods”
into its “svcadm” world, rather than using the gmond init at all.

To just get something running for an initial test, try just running it from the
command line. You’ll probably need to use “sudo” so it’ll run as the user you
have configured in your gmond.conf.

The same goes for gmetad, by the way.

the issue mentioned in the email I sent to Miah.
Thanks.

Yes, I have manually installed rrdtool, libfreetype, libart_lgpl and libpng.
It's build now but now I'm having some other issues.

First is:
pmdl380-01:~/simony/tarballs/ganglia-3.1.2 # /etc/init.d/gmond start
/etc/init.d/gmond: line 9: /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions: No such file or directory

Well, I managed to get this resolved by changing this line in gmond:
./etc/rc.d/init.d/functions
to:
[ -e /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions ] && . /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions

But now it's complaining about:
pmdl380-01:/etc/rc.d # ./gmond start
Starting GANGLIA gmond: ./gmond: line 19: daemon: command not found

Is it because I'm missing some additional packages here?
