My apologies, I jumped the gun with this question. My conf.php wasn't pointed
at the correct port - and one of our other local customizations was breaking
images in a completely different way.

Has anybody built a gmetad of gmetad's on 3.0? If so, can we share some
configuration information? Mine is looking like it's working at the gmetad
level, but the php code wants to reach from the parent directly into the
child clusters' RRD files.

Details:

I'm trying to configure my 3.0 ganglia (3.0.4 with lots of local patches) to
be more modular. I'd like to set it up so I have:

monitor1:
   gmetad instance docroot purpose
global(8651,8652) /ganglia view of all clusters
    A-clusters /A clusters A1..An
    B-clusters /B non-critical clusters B1..Bn
monitor2:
   gmetad instance docroot purpose
global(8651,8652) /ganglia view of all clusters
    A-clusters /A clusters A1..An
    C-clusters /C non-critical clusters C1..Cn

I've started this by just putting two gmetads (and docroots) on monitor1.

The "ganglia" gmetad is configured with:

data_source A-clusters monitor1:9651
xml_port 8651
interactive_port 8652
authority http://monitor1.my.domain/ganglia
rrd_dirs /my/ramdisk/rrds

The "A" gmetad is configured with

data_source A1 a1_1:8649 a1_2:8649
...
xml_port 9651
interactive_port 9652
authority http://monitor1.my.domain/a_clusters
trusted_hosts monitor1.my.domain
rrd_rootdir /my/ramdisk/rrds-acluster

The "conf.php" for each of the docroot directories is configured to point at
the appropriate rrd_dir for its specific grid.

The "A" gmetad & PHP stuff at "http://monitor1/a_clusters"; is working fine
(as it was before I did any of this).

But the "grid of grids" view is apparently trying to directly open the RRD
files for the underlying cluster. All the graphs @ the metagrid view are
broken, and my error log is filled with things like:

ERROR: opening '/my/ramdisk/rrds/a1_1/__SummaryInfo__/bytes_in.rrd': No such
file or directory
