Hi there,
We achieve what I think you want to as follows:
We have lots of machines running Ganglia gmond, grouped by business unit. For
each business unit, we nominate one of the gmond machines as a collecter. All
of the machines for this 'grid' are set to report to this collecter by putting
the following in their config file:
cluster {
name = "Business Unit A"
}
udp_send_channel {
host = BusUnitACollector.mydomain.com
port = 8649
}
In the above example, BusUnitACollecter is the hostname of one designated host
that will collect data from a load of machines. We'd have another one just like
this for business unit B, C, etc.
We then run one gmetad server and this collects data for all of these grids
from their main collectors as follows:
data_source "Business Unit A" BusUnitACollector.mydomain.com
data_source "Business Unit B" BusUnitBCollector.mydomain.com
data_source "Business Unit C" BusUnitCCollector.mydomain.com
data_source "Some Other Grid" randomhost.mydomain.com
This gives us a single gmetad to manage with just a few different gmond configs.
