Okay, so say you have hosts A and B running gmond, and host B's gmond
has a new metric, new_metric.

 * It is *not* necessary for A to also have new_metric, for it to be
able to see B's new_metric and collect it for the cluster.

 * If you can see new_metric for node B when connected to node B's
port 8649, but you *cannot* see new_metric for node B when
connected to node A's port 8649, then you should check:

1. Can you see all of the rest of node B's metrics when connected to
node A's port 8649? Look for the node B section of the XML output.
(I think you've already done this)

2. Watch the network traffic between B and A, and see if B is actually
sending new_metric to A or to a multicast that A can see and looks at.

3. Restart both gmond's, and check the syslogs on both hosts for any
   messages from gmond.
