Right, it was never something that you could do before with any of the gmond 
standard metrics anyway.  So when the modular interface was added, dmax just 
wasn't included.  In fact dmax is hardcoded to 0 in the gmond code itself.  
Exposing dmax on a per-metric basis through the .conf file could probably be 
done without too much effort.  But the global host_dmax setting seems to have 
covered the needs of most users (at least up to now).  I'm not sure what a 
per-metric dmax would accomplish that host_dmax doesn't already do.  I guess it 
would just give you a little finer granularity, if that is useful???
