I have been running ganglia 3.0 on AIX for a couple of years; I have 2
grids: a grid of ~ 400 production LPARs in ~50 clusters and a grid of
~400 dev/test/qa LPARs in ~ 50 clusters. I am starting to play with
Michael Perzl's 3.1.2 RPMs with the additional Power5/6 metrics. I
have gmond 3.1.2 installed on 16 LPARs on 2 managed systems; each
managed system is set up as a cluster. They are both P6 systems and
all LPARs are running 6100-04-01-0944. My 3.1.2 gmetad instance (from
perzl.org) is installed on a Power6 LPAR running 5300-08-04-0844.

When I start gmond on an LPAR, sometimes not all metrics get reported.

For instance for LPAR A only the following metrics are getting
recorded by gmetad in the RRD:
boottime.rrd
bytes_in.rrd
cpu_aidle.rrd
cpu_entitlement.rrd
cpu_in_lpar.rrd
cpu_in_machine.rrd
cpu_in_pool.rrd
cpu_nice.rrd
cpu_num.rrd
cpu_system.rrd
cpu_used.rrd
cpu_user.rrd
disk_total.rrd
load_five.rrd
load_one.rrd
lpar_num.rrd
mem_buffers.rrd
mem_shared.rrd
pkts_in.rrd
proc_run.rrd
swap_free.rrd
swap_total.rrd

The following are not getting recorded:
bytes_out.rrd
cpu_idle.rrd
cpu_in_syspool.rrd
cpu_pool_idle.rrd
cpu_speed.rrd
cpu_wio.rrd
disk_free.rrd
disk_read.rrd
disk_write.rrd
load_fifteen.rrd
mem_cached.rrd
mem_free.rrd
mem_total.rrd
pkts_out.rrd
proc_total.rrd
weight.rdd

For LPAR B all metrics are being recorded except:
cpu_nice.rrd
cpu_syste.rrd
mem_total.rrd

Here is the strange part. I can login to the LPAR, stop gmond, start
gmond with any debug level greater than 1, and gmond will start
reporting all metrics. I can then stop gmond and start it with out
debug specified and it will continue to report all metrics.

Anybody else encountered similar weirdness? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott Strickler
